Most Windows laptops run Windows 10 Home. It's a capable OS for all users, but there are some extra features in Windows 10 Pro specially designed for business users that make it worth their attention. We outline the benefits of choosing Pro, and round up five of the best Windows 10 Pro laptops you can buy right now from eBuyer.
Why choose a business laptop running Windows 10 Pro?
Business features supported in Windows 10 Pro but not Windows 10 Home include:
Access and control your office PC from your home computer, or vice versa. All Windows 10 machines support Remote Desktop connections, but only Windows 10 Pro PCs can be remotely controlled.
A powerful disk-encryption software for your hard drive, which can also be run on external USB drives to aid in the securing of file-sharing.
Windows Update for Business
Update software on your schedule: your laptop is an important work tool, and the ability to defer updates can prevent buggy Windows software losing you time and money.
Built-in virtualisation software, which lets you test software in a virtual sandbox or install older operating systems to get around software compatibility issues.

Asus Zenbook UX310UA Laptop
The Asus Zenbook is a 13.3in Windows 10 Pro laptop with a QHD+ (3200x1800) IPS display. It runs a powerful Intel sixth-gen Core i7-7500U processor, clocked at 2.7GHz and paired with 8GB of DDR4 RAM and a 256GB SSD.
It’s about more than pure performance, however, and the Zenbook is a seriously good-looking work tool, with a slim and light design that’s crafted from aluminium alloy. When closed the Asus is just 18mm thick, and weighs a rucksack-friendly 1.4kg.
There’s also a backlit customisable chiclet keyboard with 1.6mm key travel, and support for USB-C (plus two full-size USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0), HDMI, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1. Sound should be pretty good, too, with Asus SonicMaster tech onboard.
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 4th Gen Ultrabook
With a carbon-fibre-reinforced chassis and magnesium-alloy roll cage, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon is able to handle whatever life throws at it - or whatever you throw it at. It’s been tested to military standards for durability, so we’re pretty sure it can handle your commute.
A powerful 2.5GHz Intel Core i5-7200U processor, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, a 256GB SSD, LTE-A connectivity and the promise of 15-hour battery life are just some of the things that make this good-looking Windows 10 Pro laptop from Lenovo well worth the asking price.
Another Ultrabook in our round-up the ThinkPad X1 Carbon weighs a tiny 1.14kg, despite featuring a 14in full-HD display. It’s thinner than the Asus at 15.95mm, and Lenovo’s smallest and thinnest business Ultrabook yet.
More portable than ever, the ThinkPad doesn’t skimp on functionality. It’s equipped with a fingerprint reader, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2, with a pair of Thunderbolt 3 ports plus two USB 3.0, HDMI, Ethernet and a memory card slot.
HP EliteBook 840 G4 Laptop
The most expensive in our group of five Windows 10 Pro laptops from eBuyer, the HP EliteBook 840 G4 is also arguably the most impressive with several built-in end-to-end security features to protect your business dealings. The HP Sure View integrated privacy screen keeps visual hackers in the dark at the touch of a button, while HP Sure Start Gen3 protects against BIOS attacks.
Functional doesn’t have to mean boring, of course, and the HP EliteBook 840 looks the part for business users. This ultra-thin laptop measures just 18.9mm, despite offering a 14in full-HD screen and a full roster of ports that includes 2x USB 3.1, USB-C, VGA, DisplayPort 1.2, Ethernet and enterprise docking.
The EliteBook also offers top-end performance from its 2.7GHz Intel Core i7-7500U processor, 8GB of DDR4 RAM and 256GB SSD, and has some other welcome features up its sleeve such as a premium backlit keyboard, Bang & Olufsen stereo speakers, dual mics and noise cancellation.
Dell Latitude 14 (3480) Laptop
Dell is a familiar name in the world of business laptops, and if you’re looking for a Windows 10 Pro model this could well be it. The Latitude 14 is - unsurprisingly - a 14in screen laptop, with a 1366x768-pixel Anti-Glare display. That sounds less impressive than the other laptops here, but before you write off the Dell just look at that price.
Also enticing is the 2.5GHz Intel Core i5-7200U processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB SSD and various security features onboard. The Latitude 14 is preinstalled with the Dell Data Protection software suite, for example, which can help protect your business.
The spec includes 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB 2.0, USB 3.0 with PowerShare, VGA, HDMI and Ethernet.
Lenovo ThinkPad 13 Ultrabook
At just a few quid over £600, the Lenovo ThinkPad 13 is not the most powerful business laptop money can buy, but it does include all the benefits of Windows 10 Pro, and it’s a usefully portable tool for bringing in and out of the office every day.
It has a 13.3in full-HD (1920x1080) display, but weighs just 1.4kg and is 19.8mm thick. Around its edges you’ll find three USB 3.0 ports, plus USB-C, full-size HDMI, a DC jack, memory card slot and a headphone jack. The ThinkPad also has a fingerprint scanner for secure login.
Powering the ThinkPad is a 2.4GHz Intel Core i3-7100U processor with 4GB of DDR4 RAM and a 180GB SSD. You can add more memory (to 16GB) if required.
