Best PS4 Pro games: Ark: Survival Evolved

Ark: Survival Evolved only launched on PS4 at the beginning of December 2016, but it is already one of the few games that supports the PS4 Pro. Unlike many other games, the open-world dino-survival game provides gamers with a number of graphical settings, allowing a choice between 720p60 or 1080p30, although the framerate does depend on your choices in the “advanced graphics” section. Talking about the PS4 Pro, Studio Wildcard (the developers of Ark) claimed that the performance was akin to a $900 gaming PC – not bad for a £349 console.

Best PS4 Pro games: Eve: Valkyrie (PSVR)

This one is specific not only to the PS4 Pro, but PlayStation VR on the PS4 Pro. Eve: Valkyrie, once an Oculus Rift exclusive, is now also available for PSVR and HTC Vive. Eve: Valkyrie is undoubtedly one of the most popular and graphically impressive VR games available, and the recent PS4 Pro patch provides Pro gamers with enhanced graphics and shadows while dog fighting in a variety of stunning environments in space. Everything’s a little clearer than before, and thus makes the experience more immersive and enjoyable.

Best PS4 Pro games: The Last of Us Remastered

As well as being one of the greatest games ever made, The Last of Us (or at least the remastered PS4 edition) provides PS4 Pro support. For those with a 1080p TV, the game renders at the “highest resolution” and downscales the super-sampled image to 1080p, providing enhanced graphics and clearer edges. 4K TV owners have two options: you can either play at native 4k (3840x2160) at 30fps, or run it at 3200x1800 and achieve 60fps gameplay. HDR support is also included for both 1080p and 4K TV owners too, although only for HDR-supported TVs.

Best PS4 Pro games: Rise of the Tomb Raider

Rise of the Tomb Raider is a great example of a Pro-supported game done right. 4K TV owners get not two but three different graphical settings to choose from, including one that renders in full 4K at 30fps. The other two options are also offered to those using a 1080p TV, with the choice between 1080p gameplay at “up to” 60fps, or 1080p at 30fps with enhanced visuals. The last option improves overall image quality using things like hardware tessellation, anisotropic filtering and more.

Best PS4 Pro games: Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Uncharted 4 is absolutely gorgeous when running on a standard PS4, so PS4 Pro owners are in for a treat. Those with a 4K TV will be treated to an increased resolution both on the story mode (2560x1440) and on multiplayer (1920x1080), with HDR support throughout. 1080p TV owners are treated to super-sampled gameplay, scaling down from the “highest resolution” to 1080p.

Best PS4 Pro games: Hitman

Hitman can also take advantage of the extra power provided by the PS4 Pro, with developers describing a “whole new level of detail” added to the game. As well as an increase in resolution, gamers can expect improved “reflective surfaces” alongside “more detailed lighting effects” without any kind of effect on frame rate. The UI is rendered in native 4K for a crisp look on 4K TVs too.
