Torch Media Torch Browser 23.4 full review
Torch Media's Torch Browser is based on the Chrome rendering engine, but isn't quite as up to date as some. Version 23 was included in the browser even though the current version is 26. However, that’s only a few months old, so it’s still acceptable and the performance and HTML5 support is fine.
Torch Browser offers some unusual features and at the left and right sides of the browser window are semi-transparent drop zones. Once you know where they are and how to use them they can be made completely invisible, but still operational. See all software reviews.
The left drop zone is for sharing and you can drag something off a page, such as text, a link or an image and a panel of tiles pops up with Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, and LinkedIn. Drop the item on the tile and you can share it with your friends and followers.
On the right in the other drop zone are tiles for searching the web, image searches, Wikipedia searches and so on. There is a button for general Facebook and Twitter posts too.
A video downloader is built in to Torch and when there's a video clip playing on the page, the Media button in the toolbar is enabled. Click it and the video can be saved to disk as an flv file.
A BitTorrent client is built in and the toolbar button opens a new tab with all the standard controls you would expect. You can add torrents, start, pause and remove them, set bandwidth limits, view peers, trackers and activity and so on. It’s great for grabbing big Linux distros and other files distributed this way.
A Torch Music toolbar button opens a tab and displays free music you can listen to and watch in the browser. You can browse the suggestions on the home page or create your own online music collection by signing in. It's really just a clever portal and player for accessing all the music on YouTube, so it’s all legal and it can’t be saved or passed around.
Torch Browser 23.4: Bottom line
This is a great alternative browser that adds some interesting extras on top of the Chrome engine. It’s well worth trying out.
Torch Music us built in to the browser and it provides easy access to YouTube music
If you download big files using BitTorrent,, you can do it from within Torch Browser
