Chillblast Fusion Hotrod full review
There are many kinds of specialist PC available, but if you have only one PC in the home it’s jolly useful to have one which can turn its hand to anything.
Chillblast’s Fusion Hotrod does just that, and if you can afford to spend £150 to £200 more than the price of the two budget systems from Arbico and Braebo you’ll find this PC has plenty more to offer.
Based on the same 3.3GHz Intel Core i5-2500K processor as the less-expensive Arbico eXcel i5256 VX, the Fusion Hotrod delivers almost identical performance when put through its paces by WorldBench 6. Both PCs receiving an excellent score of 172 points. Chillblast’s comes with a couple of extra internal USB 3.0 ports too.
To boost gaming performance, Chillblast has added an Radeon HD 6870 graphics card with 1GB memory which delivers a huge boost in gaming performance – gaining around five times the speed in our Crysis test at Medium settings and 1280x720 resolution.
You also get a full-HD Asus VS247H LED monitor which is not only larger, but offers considerably better picture quality than the AOC F22+. Blu-ray playback is available, thanks to the Samsung SH-B123L/BSB combo drive and CyberLink’s Power DVD software is included to assist with playback.
Unfortunately, the basic Sweex stereo speakers are a bit of a let-down in the context of such premium components.
A wireless keyboard and mouse combo is included in the form of the Logitech Cordlesss MK260. It’s a better option than the cheap wired model supplied by Eclipse, but Cyberpower offers a more advanced model and neither of these match the Microsoft Wireless Desktop offered by Braebo.
Some useful software is offered pre-installed, but mostly open-source or older programs anyone could download themselves for free.
