Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190 full review

Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190

The IdeaCentre Q190 from Lenovo is a very smart-looking mini PC with a long, slim design which can lay flat on your desk or upright in its supplied stand. It also comes with a VESA bracket for fixing to the back of your monitor.

The Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190 comes in a pleasing glossy black and silver finish with all front-facing ports concealed behind a plastic door. These include a pair of USB 3.0 ports, audio jacks and a multi-format card reader. The back panel includes four USB 2.0, ethernet, HDMI and VGA as well as an optical SP/DIF port for easy connection to digital speaker systems.

The flat design of the Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190 allows it to be clipped together with an optional matchine DVD burner or Blu-ray drive, making this a great system for use as a home theatre PC, although the continuous soft whirring of the cooling fan may be too distracting for some. Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190: older processor, graphics

The Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190 mini PC is powered by a 1.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i3-2365M "Sandy Bridge" mobile processor, which is unfortunately nowhere near as fast as the more modern Intel processors used elsewhere in the mini PC world. The resulting PCMark 7 score of 1905 points being rather disappointing.

Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190 Because it's an older chip, it also offers Intel's older and slower HD Graphics 3000 solution, delivering the lowest overall frame rates – this certainly isn't the PC for gaming fans. However, in general use, it does feel a lot more nimble than some other mini PCs. There are short delays when opening some apps, but no waits worthy rapping your fingers on the desk in frustration.

A large, 1TB hard drive is include with this model which is the most storage offered by any in the round-up. It also includes a standard 4GB of DDR3 RAM. The Q190 is also available with a slower Pentium processor, which we would not recommend. The system comes with a 1 year RTB warranty which can be extended up to three years for £17.
