Toshiba Satellite P750-137 full review

Boasting a quad-core Intel i7-2630QM processor, the Toshiba Satellite P750-137 has got plenty of power to offer. The Satellite scored 131 in our WorldBench 6 tests, just one point short of the other Toshiba in this group, although with a price tag some £600 lower. The 8GB of RAM is generous and though the 750GB hard drive isn't the largest offering it is by no means a bad deal.

For watching films, the Satellite has a Blu-ray drive, playing through the 15.6in screen ata resolution of 1366 x 768. You can also hook it up to your TV using HDMI and if you have a 3D TV, the Satellite supports 3D content so you can play that through your TV too.

The screen itself is pretty decent, but we found the shiny bezel around what is already a glossy, reflective display simply too much glare. As long as you can control where the light sources are, though, reflection might’nt be too much of an issue. A wide viewing angle and rich colour output go some way to make up for it.

We like the well-spaced keyboard and the touchpad that can easily be turned off when you type. The numeric keypad to the right is welcome but we can't help thinking that the Delete key, placed immediately above the Backspace key, is in the wrong position and would be more useful to the top right of the keypad. But if you want to use the Toshiba to type long documents, it'll do the job nicely.

Gaming performance was slightly disappointing, with frame rates of 35fps in FEAR tests at Maximum settings. Though this is playable, it's by no means outstanding, with the Rock in particular putting it in the shade.

Also, like other Toshiba laptops, it comes pre-loaded with all manner of bloatware. Starting the system up for the first time, it takes an age to take you through everything that it wants you to register, or to enable immediately before you can get around to actually using the thing. The sheer amount of unnecessary software here also lengthens the boot process every time you start up. It’s a real nuisance, so be prepared to spend time uninstalling unwanted apps.
