Decimator SLI FX full review

Everything about this PC screams power, from the gigantic brushed metal casing to the 500GB of storage space and the 256MB ATI Radeon X850XT Platinum Edition graphics card. But these are mere sideshows.

Top billing goes to the Athlon 64 FX-57 processor, which is built using a 90-nanometer process for greater efficiency and lower manufacturing costs. It has a 1MB Level 2 cache and features a 2GHz HyperTransport bus.

Evesham has plumped for 1GB of DDR400 (PC3200) memory and the MS-7185 motherboard from MSI. This board supports dual nVidia SLI (scalable link interface) graphics cards, so you could upgrade in the future, although the performance is already pretty hot.

A WorldBench 5 score of 112 is the second-highest we've ever seen and the frame rates achieved in our graphics tests were astonishing. The Evesham achieved rates of 114.3fps (frames per second) at a resolution of 1,024x768 on Doom 3, dropping to 86.7fps at 1,280x1,024, and scored 79.8fps and 76.6fps on Halo.

It isn't all about performance, though. The weighty case looks great, and practicality hasn't been thrown out of the window - not only do we find front-mounted USB 2.0 ports, but top-mounted ports as well. There's a removable card reader, too. The case is generally uncluttered, with room for additions - there's three spare 5.25in drive bays.

The VP191S flat-panel is an excellent model. This is an absolutely top-notch set of specifications.
