Steganos Security Suite 2006 full review

Most of the security packages you have encountered will probably have included antivirus and firewall programs. In fact, it may be that you think this is all you need. Well, you'd be wrong.

There's more to protecting sensitive information than that – so Steganos has come up with a package that doesn't contain an antivirus or firewall program, but does contain several other critical elements.

We've made a fuss in the past about antispyware apps. You should absolutely, without question, have one by now. Steganos has now included AntiSpyware 2006 in its Security Suite for the first time, so if you don't have such a tool in your defensive armoury, here's your opportunity.

We looked at Steganos Safe 8.0 in the October 05 issue of PC Advisor; it allows you to create areas on your hard drive or removable media that can only be accessed by a password. It uses 256bit AES (advanced encryption standard) rather than the 128bit previous versions of Safe used.

With Security Suite 2006 you can encrypt files by hiding the sensitive information within a larger, dummy image or audio file. Emails can also by encrypted – but don't worry, they are automatically decrypted when received and don't require any additional software.

There's a Password Manager that does exactly what it says on the tin, you need remember only one password rather than dozens.

The Shredder doesn't just delete data, it completely wipes it – and you can even browse the internet in privacy with the Internet Trace Destructor and Private Favourites application.
