Edimax 3G-6210n full review
In fact, the rechargeable lithium battery it comes with is nearly the same size. Despite its minute stature, the Edimax 3G-6210n is packed with features but you'll need a USB modem if you want to get online. This bumps up the cost of something that is already quite expensive and makes its portable mobile features somewhat redundant. On the other hand, you could easily sling this and a modem in a laptop bag without noticing you were carrying extra kit.
As the name suggests, the Edimax 3G-6210n can be used to share a 3G broadband connection as well as an ADSL or cable internet. Next-generation wireless features such as WPA2 are provided and there's a WPS switch so you can set up your ISP info with a single button.
The Edimax 3G-6210n looks very swish with nice LED lights on its tiny gloss black frame and has one Ethernet port and one USB connection for the modem.
On the right is a standard Ethernet connection along with a mini-USB port for charging and on the left are LAN//WAN and power switches and a Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) button. There's a power adaptor so you don’t have to rely on the battery. This battery is automatically charged when the Edimax 3G-6210n router is being run from the mains.
Using the USB adaptor Edimax supplied, we set up a 11.n WiFi network easily. The web admin page has a good array of features but if you're inexperienced at setting up a network you're well catered for with the good set up wizard. Using this, setup is a breeze.
Throughtput is listed as 150Mbps. As a single antennae modem the Edimax 3G-6210n had problems coping with pushing data through a two wall barrier. In 11.g mode over a long distance throughput really suffered. It took nearly 9 minutes to transfer 700MB of data. We also found the signal dropped off a couple of times.
With the 11.n WiFi adaptor on this sped up to just under 4 minutes through two walls, getting almost exactly the same speed with the router next to the laptop.
