Xerox WorkCentre 6605DN full review
The Xerox WorkCentre 6605DN was designed to be both a conventional small business multifunction printer and to provide further effective enhancements to production.
The styling is the by-now familiar square structure in two-tone shades of deep blue and light cream, measuring a relatively space efficient 430 x 528 x 560mm. The machine is generally solidly built (and weighs a reassuringly hefty 32.5kg), although the input tray for the ADF and the side panel that houses the waste cartridge feel flimsy.
The standard storage capacity begins with a 550-sheet feeder tray in the base, a drop-down 150-sheet multipurpose tray above and the 50-sheet auto document feed (ADF) at the top. You can further supplement this with another optional 550-sheet tray. The ADF has duplex as standard.
Also features is a bright and colourful 4.3in touchscreen, where ease of use is the priority. The home screen links to the four main tasks of print, copy, scan and fax; and additionally lets you set up email connections via ethernet and to print off ID cards.
The two remaining menu screens allow you to keep track of active as well as stored secure jobs, together with display settings, general information and tools.
The power-save function kicks in if you leave the machine unattended for a period and a USB port is wisely included under the display so you can either scan (at up to 1200 x 1200 dpi) to it or print from it.
As well as the ethernet, a Wi-Fi adaptor can be purchased separately if necessary. Or you can attach to a single printer via the USB 2.0 port.
Xerox WorkCentre 6605DN: Performance
Print speeds for both mono and colour documents averaged around 33ppm, with 12ppm for document copies and 20ppm for duplex.
The colour quality is especially crisp and vibrant on documents even without using the vivid option. This is equally true of scanned images.
As for operating costs, if you opt for the high-capacity (6000 pages for the three colour and 8000 for the black) ink cartridges, then you're looking at 2.95p per page for colour and 1.61p per page for black & white.
This is slightly more than the Dell C3765dnf we reviewed recently while in other areas in their features set the two machines are closely matched.
