Acer Iconia One 7 full review
At its event in New York, Acer has announced another budget tablet so here's our review of the Acer Iconia One 7. Read: The 25 best tablets of 2014.
The Acer Iconia One 7 will launch next month with a budget tablet price of €139, a little less than the Iconia Tab 7.
Unlike most tablet, the Iconia One 7 will come in a broad range of colours; a total of 10 including black, white, red, blue, yellow and green. The textured plastic rear cover will no doubt divide opinions in terms of style but it does aid grip. The device is reasonably thin and light at 8.95mm and 330g.
Maverick Shih, president of Acer's cloud and tablet group, said: "The new Iconia One 7 is a great example of how we continue this heritage by offering mobile devices with great functionality, unique designs and excellent value."
As you'd expect from the name, the Iconia One 7 is another 7in tablet and like its aluminium clad brother uses a 1280 x 800 resolution which is not bad. It also has an IPS screen but we don’t think viewing angles are really up to the IPS standard we're used to seeing. We're also not keen on the way the panel is set quite far away from the front and like the Tab 7, brightness really need to be at full for comfortable use.
There are front and rear cameras but at 0.3Mp and 2Mp respectively, you're not going to get very good results from either. It's the basics here. Things are a bit better on the storage front with 16- or 32GB and a microSD card slot for adding more.
The One 7 is an Intel-powered tablet and as such is equipped with an Atom Z2560 Dual-Core 1.6GHz processor backed up by 1GB. During out time with the device, performance seems reasonable but nothing more. Acer touts a battery life of up to seven hours which is one hour more than the Tab 7.
Although the Iconia Tab 7 runs on Android 4.4 KitKat, the One 7 has the older 4.2 Jelly Bean which is a shame. Luckily, Acer has said it will be upgradable to KitKat.
