As the title heavily suggests, this is a table tennis app for Android tablets and smartphones. To describe it as just a game of ping pong would be an insult though. This is a battle of wits, agility and skill. A test of character, tactics and dedication. It's the ultimate. See also Best Android Apps.

Basic design? Yes…maybe. However, that doesn't matter. The app captures of the very essence of the sport. After all, ping pong is basic sport; get the ball over the net one more time than your opponent and you win a point. Simple and beautiful. Visit top ten Android apps

To operate your paddle (the bat, for non-ping pongers), you need to use your finger in a swiping motion and swipe through the ball - this is easy to learn, but difficult to master. The faster you swipe the faster the ball will go, however, there a numerous factors to weigh up before taking each shot; which direction is the ball coming at you from, what speed, how big is the bounce, is there any spin on it. It's this little attentions to detail, like this, that make this plucky little game so addictive and brilliant.

Once you've got the hang of the pace and bounce, you can't start taking it up a gear with a double tap, once you've done that you enable spin and all hell breaks lose. If you managed a post spin rally of two, you're doing well.

To aid your overall control and feel for the game, there is a very slight vibrate feature that comes to life whenever you hit the ball. This is hardly noticeable at first, but once you get further into the game it becomes a great addition as touch and feel become vital for ping pong success.

The game is set out with 30 different levels to complete across three different difficulty settings. It gets pretty tough pretty quickly, so you better make sure your technique is up to scratch or you'll get found out sharpish. To add an extra bit of spice, the game lets you choose which of the eight major table tennising countries you want to represent on your journey through the 30 levels.

The game is free so obviously it comes with adverts, but if you're anything like me you'll be so engrossed in the game you won't really notice them after a couple of shots. There is also the option to post your score onto Facebook and Twitter, but we suggest against such actions, as it's a little crass, isn't it?

This is a game that has a bit of a cult following on the iPad, and after getting soundly thrashed while playing a friend (on his iPad) it's easy to understand why. The game is addictive, especially if you're ever-so-slightly competitive (who isn't?) and now it's available on the Android!
