If you're looking for an app that is the next best thing to a piano, then allow me to quash your hopes straight away. This isn't it. It's not even the next best thing, to the next best thing to a piano; if that makes sense. But it is good if you're a complete beginner and you want to get a little taster to see what playing the piano is like, without trundling down to the local music shop.

On the surface, what you get with Perfect Piano is 7 displayed keys of a full piano to tinkle away the hours with. Which is great if you want to practice you chords on during your lunch break. The sound is very piano-y and the app even handles multiple touches well, which to be honest, is pretty essential for a piano app.

The real fun comes when you you hit the function button and select Learn To Play > Open Preload Songs. This is where gives you an idiot's guide to playing a dozen well known songs ranging from Beethoven's For Alice to toe-tapping songs like Hey Jude. They've even got a couple of crazy Chinese tunes!? Perfect Piano lets you play these songs in guitar hero fashion, and you'll amaze yourself how quickly you can master some of the easier tracks.

The app also give you the option to download further free songs from its website - but we couldn't get this feature to work on our Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. However, if you're lucky enough or dedicated enough to make it work for your handset, then the app will become ten times more enjoyable as there is only so many times you can play you friends the same 50 seconds of Yesterday, before they get fed up with you.

The app is free, but there are some inoffensive banner ads that pop in some times. These do not obstruct you piano experience in anyway, so there is nothing much to worry about.

You can even record your songs!!!

For a free app that lets you practice you chords and even play riffs of well known songs, it's brilliant. It's unlikely that you're going to record a number one single on this, but it well worth a download and a tinkle.
