Samsung has announced a new blood pressure measurement app for its Galaxy Watch Active 2 that for now is exclusive to Korea after being cleared by South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. The app needed is called Samsung Health Montior and is available for download now.
The company also confirmed that the app would get an update in Q3 for Korean users that will enable the Watch Active 2’s ECG function that was cleared for commercial use in May. Much like Apple Watch Series 4 and 5, the ECG function is built into the Watch Active 2’s hardware but is only allowed by region-specific software as health bodies must approve its use.
Samsung’s official announcement suggests that you need a separate blood pressure cuff to calibrate the watch, suggesting you need to recalibrate every four weeks. It looks like you need a cuff-design blood pressure monitor to maintain accurate readings. We certainly don’t have one hanging around, and Samsung doesn’t say if it’s selling one.
Sammobile said that the updated app is rolling out now and new firmware for the Watch should be available to download for Korean owners. It’s unclear if and when ECG and blood pressure monitoring will come to the watch in other countries.
