The Vaio Z Canvas is aimed at photo editors, illustrators and graphic designers with the device being "the precise and powerful tool for professionals with a mission."

Coincidence or not, Microsoft is expected to launch the Surface Pro 4 tomorrow and you can watch the event live right here.

Vaio Z Canvas release date and price

Announced earlier this year, the Vaio Z Canvas is now up for pre-order in the US starting at $2,199 with an expected shipping day of 5 October (today). There are three models to choose from and as far as we are aware there are no plans to launch this device in the UK – we're waiting for an response - but you can always ship one over if you really want to get your hands on one.

That starting model comes with a 256GB SSD and 8GB of RAM but you can also opt for a 16GB model with either a 512GB or 1TB PCI Express x4 SSD for $2,599 and $3,099 respectively.

Vaio Z Canvas specifications

Those prices do seem quite high but the Vaio Z Canvas does come bundled with the digitizer pen and keyboard which Microsoft's Surface Pro does not.

Core specs include Windows 10 Pro, an Intel Core i7 Haswell processor and Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200. As well as the optional storage and memory (see above), the device comes with a 12.3in IPS screen with a 2560x1704 resolution – that's slightly bigger than the Surface Pro 3.

Sony Vaio Z Canvas ports

It also has a host of ports including two USB 3.0 ports, an SD card reader, mini-DisplayPort, HDMI and ethernet RJ45. That's impressive and it also boasts an aluminium uni-body and 6-sided tempered glass.
