Buffalo Technology has unveiled the DriveStation Velocity, a 7,200rpm external hard drive with USB 3.0 technology that it claims is 5x faster than USB 2.0 drives.

According to Buffalo, the sleek black device can transfer data at a rate of 5Gbps using its USB 3.0 connection, which it claims means 1,000 digital photographs can be moved in 6.8 seconds. For user's that don't have USB 3.0 technology, the drive is also backwards compatible with USB 2.0

The drive, which comes in 1TB, 2TB or 3TB capacities, also offers 256-bit AES Full Disk Encryption (FDE) for secure data transfer and is bundled with the TurboPC Ex data transfer and copy utility, which helps improve the data transfer process. It measures 189x123x39mm.

More than half (54 percent) revealed they only found out their account has been compromised because friends alerted them and 15 percent only found out because they received an official email from the account's provider.

"The DriveStation Velocity is the perfect solution for those who need to transfer files quickly and easily. The DriveStation Velocity's ultra-high speeds, combined with 256-bit AES Full Disk Encryption (FDE) and a unique, sleek, piano-black chassis make the DriveStation Velocity the ideal product for customers who want a fast, secure and stylish way to store their data and protect it from un-authorised access.," said Paul Hudson from Buffalo Technology.

Priced at £89.99 for the 1TB version, £112 for the 2TB model and £164 from the 3TB capacity, the Buffalo DriveStation Velocity is available now.
