Samsung has finally taken the wraps off its Galaxy S4 smartphone which has a Full HD screen and an 8-core processor, as expected. See also Samsung Galaxy S4 new features. The long wait is over and the Galaxy S4 is finally here. Samsung announced its new flagship smartphone at its own launch event in New York's Times Square. The device succeeds the Galaxy S3 and will go up against smartphones including the iPhone 5, Sony Xperia Z and HTC One. There wasn't a lot left for Samsung to surprise us with given the amount of leaks which have occurred over the last few days, weeks and months. As countless rumours suggested, the Galaxy S4 features a 5in Full HD Super AMOLED screen and an Exynos 5 Octa 8-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz. This powerful chip is accompanied by 2GB of RAM and internal storage is 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Like previous Galaxy devices, there's a microSD card slot for expansion. See also: Samsung Galaxy S4 official images and design. Samsung said: "Packed full of innovative features and with a super sleek design, the Galaxy S 4 is designed to bring your world together." As you would expect, the Galaxy S4 is running Android Jelly Bean, version 4.2.2 with Samsung's TouchWiz interface. The leaked information was accurate in that Smart Scroll and Smart Pause are new eye tracking features as part of Smart Screen. They automatically scroll up and down web pages and emails and pause video content, respectively. Other software features, of which there are many, include dual camera recording, story album, group play, air view and s health. The rear camera matches the Xperia Z at 13Mp and the front facing camera is rated at 2.1Mp. Other specifications include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC support and an infrered sensor. As EE confirmed before the launch on Twitter, the Galaxy S4 comes with 4G LTE capability – no surprise there. The Galaxy S4 weighs 130g and is just 7.9mm thick, according to Samsung. However, it uses the same plastic build with a removable rear cover like its predecessors. This is something we're not used to anymore with a high-end flagship smartphone. Samsung didn't do an Apple-style 'one more thing' and announce a Galaxy S4 mini or a Galaxy Smart Watch. We'll have to wait and see what Unpacked Episode 2 has in store. Samsung Galaxy S4 price and release date Samsung hasn't announced a price for the Galaxy S4 yet but the smartphone will go on sale in just over a month in the UK, on 26 April.
