Lenovo today announced the YOGA 3 Pro, an ultrathin-and-light laptop/tablet convertible with a Quad HD touchscreen display. Here we explain the YOGA 3 Pro's UK release date, price and specs. For more details on the launch, see Lenovo Yoga Tablet launch live video and blog: as it happened.
What is Lenovo YOGA 3 Pro?
Lenovo describes the YOGA 3 Pro as an 'intelligent' notebook. It says this thin-and-light portable is adaptable and powerful. It is a 13in laptop running Windows 8.1, and it comes with an integral touchscreen, JBL speakers and Waves Audio. Lenovo has also launched a host of new tablets, details here: Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 and Yoga Tablet Pro release date, price and specs.
Lenovo YOGA 3 Pro design
The YOGA 3 Pro is an adaptable laptop, with four usage modes. You can use the YOGA 3 Pro as a laptop or tablet, and there are stand and tilt modes. Lenovo says the hinge design allows you to lay the YOGA 3 Pro flat on a table when opened up in laptop mode. Which is nice. The YOGA 3 Pro is available in colours described as 'Clementine Orange', 'Champagne Gold', and 'Platinum'. (See also: The 29 best tablets of 2014 UK.)
Lenovo YOGA 3 Pro specifications and features
The first thing to note is just how portable is this laptop from Lenovo. According to the manufacturer it is just 12.8mm thick, and weighs a lively 1.19kg.
Then consider the power. The YOGA 3 is one of the first convertibles to come with an Intel M 'Broadwell' processor. These latest CPUs from Intel are designed to offer maximum desktop power in something with the battery life of a smartphone or tablet. In the case of the YOGA 3 Pro the chip is combined with up to 8GB RAM, and graphics are taken care of by the Broadwell chip's onboard Intel graphics.
That 13in QuadHD display has a resolution of 3200 x 1800, giving it a pixel density of 276 - that is huge for a laptop. It puts it into mid-range smartphone territory in terms of detail. Lenovo also say there is a special 'Paper' setting that makes reading eBooks a great experience. We'll be interested to test that. Lenovo claims that the YOGA 3 Pro has a nine-hour battery life. The power point doubles as a USB port when you are not charging, meaning you get two USB 3.0-, and one USB 2.0 ports. Other connectivity options include 802.11 A/C Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4. You can choose from a hard drive, an SSD or a combination of both. Up to 512GB storage is available, and you can have a 512GB SSD if you desire.
There is a 720p HD webcam, and JBL speakers. There is also an integral software app that Lenovo calls YOGA Harmony. This automatically optimises settings based on the application you are using, according to Lenovo. Lenovo also says Harmony will easily launch your most used apps in each mode, and discover new apps popular with other YOGA users. It sounds like bloatware to us, but you have to try these things to find out.
