Coming in a choice of 15 or 17in models, the most noticeable design change is a significant slimming of the bezels. From 9.9mm on the previous model, the smaller variant has a border of just 6.5mm, while the larger version is also down to 8.16mm.

This should make for a more immersive gaming experience, complemented by 3D audio courtesy of gaming specialists Nahimic. The screen itself subtly raised from the keyboard, to ensure maximum airflow to the CPU.

Bulky, imposing design language is a noticeable shift from Dell's sleek consumer lines, but it means the new G7 packs a punch.

Powered by a choice of Intel Core processors (up to i9), the laptop comes with Nvidia's GeForce RTX 2070 graphics and 8 or 16GB of RAM. Both models come with a 144Hz refresh rate, which should ensure super-smooth gaming even on graphic intensive-titles.

At well over 2kg, neither devices are lightweight, but the premium specs on a portable machine should more than make up for that. As is the case with so many gaming laptops, there are also some standout RGB lighting options

The 15in G7 has a confirmed UK release date of 17 July, although we're not sure exactly when in July the 17in model will arrive. Pricing is yet to be revealed, although we'd expect it to be around the £999 that the previous 17in version started at.

Whether these devices can rival the likes of Asus and Razer to be considered among the best gaming laptops remains to be seen.

Alongside the new G7 series, Dell also unveiled a new version of its powerful G5 desktop PC and two sizes of curved gaming monitors.
