When is the League of Legends: Wild Rift release date?

Developer Riot Games hasn’t committed to a specific release date for Wild Rift, but we’re expecting the game to have a full release some time in 2021, as we already know that the open beta will extend at least into early that year.

What is Wild Rift?

Simply put, League of Legends: Wild Rift is a mobile version of the popular PC MOBA – aka multiplayer online battle arena, if you’re not familiar.

You’re able to play as any of a selection of the core LoL champions in 5v5 arenas, with the chance to play with friends or work your way up the ranked ladder solo.

It’s a simplified version of LoL built for mobile and console, but still includes over 40 champions with unique abilities and ultimates, and the same strategic lane-based play.

It’s free-to-play and the devs insist it will never be pay-to-win, with microtransactions primarily tied to champions and cosmetics.

Is League of Legends mobile on Android and iPhone?

Yes. While Apple made a big fuss about the game at the iPhone 12 launch, LoL: Wild Rift isn’t actually an iOS-exclusive, and it will be available on both Android and iPhone.

It’s also set to launch on consoles, but we don’t yet know which platforms to expect it on.

How to join the Wild Rift beta

So yeah, about that beta. The game has been in closed beta for a little while, but a regional open beta kicked off in late October in Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Timor-Leste.

Anyone in those countries is able to play the game now.

The beta will expand to new countries soon though, with the UK and most of the rest of the world expected to get the beta some time in December:

  • Europe
  • Middle East
  • North Africa
  • Oceania
  • Russia
  • Taiwan
  • Turkey
  • Vietnam

Finally, the open beta is currently set to reach North and South America in early 2021.

If you’re impatient and find yourself in the wrong part of the world, you might be able to use a VPN like Nord to access the app store in one of the above countries and get into the beta early. If you’re tempted to try, check out our guides to VPNs on Android and iPhone to find out how.
