Can I use my PSVR headset on PS5?
Yes, you’re able to use your first-gen PlayStation VR headset to play games on PS5 via the console’s backwards compatibility with PS4 titles. This allows you to play your existing library of PSVR games on your new console, but there’s a catch – you can’t use the new PS5 HD Camera with your headset.
Instead, you’ll have to apply for a PlayStation Camera adapter to connect the older accessory to the next-gen console. Every PSVR owner is entitled to one from Sony, but it is a bit of a pain if you’ve already got the kit and have to wait for an adapter to be shipped to you. We cover how to get the PSVR camera adapter for PS5 separately for those that want to know more.
But still, once the adapter arrives, you should be free to play your favourite PSVR titles on PS5.
Will I be able to play native PS5 VR games on the PSVR headset?
While some sites suggest that you’ll be able to play upcoming VR titles designed for the PS5 platform using the first-gen headset, that’s likely not the case. Sony has confirmed the existence of a new VR headset tailored for the PS5, unofficially dubbed PSVR 2, that will likely be the only headset supported by the majority of new titles going forward.
Pavlov: Shack developer @davevills confirmed as such on Twitter, suggesting that the original headset doesn’t have the fidelity required for its upcoming title, and given the wildly different controls on offer compared to the first-gen PSVR headset, we imagine most other developers will follow suit.
