Bloodborne release date, price, screenshots: What is Bloodborne?
Bloodborne is an upcoming RPG, being developed by From Software exclusively for Sony PS4. It will feature action role-playing elements similar to those in From's other games Demon's Souls and Dark Souls. Bloodborne will be published by Sony Computer Entertainment, and is directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki.
Bloodborne is set in Yharnam: described as a 'gothic, ruined city' which is reputed to hold the cure to medical problems (think Harrogate or Bath after 8pm, midweek, in the winter). The player takes the role of a medical pilgrim, traveling to Yharnam in order to cure an unspecified ailment. When you get there, however, you find out that the city is plagued with an endemic illness that has malformed most of its denizens into bestial creatures. (Actually, this sounds a lot more like Matlock or Boston Spa).
The aim of the game is to navigate the streets of Yharnam, and overcome its violently deranged inhabitants and horrifying monsters in order to survive. (This is definitely like Matlock, but only at closing time on a Friday in February.)
The games developers say that Bloodborne is full of fast-paced combat. They would. Players, we are told, will be encouraged to attack at all times, taking risks to slay hordes of enemies. The game's health regain system rewards aggression, allowing players to recover their character's strength by blasting the opposition.
According to the game's developers another key factor in Bloodborne gameplay is that melee weapons can transform into two states, each of which encourages a different approach to combat. So the cleaver can be used to quickly dispatch enemies in cramped areas, or used as an extended blade more suited for crowd control. Players can also use a firearm in one hand, and a melee weapon in the other.

Bloodborne was first announced at Sony's Electronic Entertainment Expo 2014 media briefing on June 9, 2014. It will launch for PlayStation 4 in the UK and Ireland on the 27 March 2015. (Minor annoyance: Bloodborne will launch throughout the rest of the PAL region on 25 March). This represents something of a delay, as it was believed that the publishers onitially intended to release Bloodborne in February.
