"After becoming aware that there is a potential issue with the Mi Electric Scooter (Model: M365), we determined that, in a limited number of products, a screw in the folding apparatus has the potential to come loose, causing the handlebar axle to fold involuntarily. Because customer safety is our primary concern, we believe the best course of action is to conduct a proactive product safety recall of the units affected."
There are reportedly 10,257 affected units, produced between 27 October and 5 December 2018. The affected models have serial numbers ranging from 21074/00000316 - 21074/00015107 and 16133/00541209 - 16133/00544518.
The vast majority of these were distributed in the UK, but the recall also affects customers in Germany, Spain, Denmark, Kazakhstan, Myanmar, Colombia, Turkey, Laos, Italy, Hungary, Greece, Korea, Macau, United Arab Emirates, Belgium, Portugal, Singapore, Russia and Thailand.
Xiaomi apologises for the recall, and advises all M365 Electric Scooter owners to stop using their device until they have verified whether or not it is one of the affected models and in need of repair.
How to check whether your Electric Scooter is part of the recall
All genuine Xiaomi Electric Scooters have a label below the main board that has printed on it a serial number. You'll find it here:
Note down the serial number, then head to this Electric Scooter recall page. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, enter your serial number, copy the verification code, then click Verify.
If your scooter is faulty you'll be asked to enter your email address. You should then be sent information regarding a free repair within 72 hours (if it doesn't arrive in your inbox in that time check your spam folder).
