Supergirl returns back from hiatus in the US, and is halfway through the season in the UK. If you're looking to find out all the scoop on this DC favourite, here's everything you need to know. 

When does Supergirl season 5 return?

In the US season 5 will return from hiatus on The CW on April 26 at 9pm EST. In the UK, Supergirl airs on Sky One and Now TV every Monday at 9pm BST, but it is quite a few episodes behind the US. It's worth noting that Supergirl production has been impacted by the coronavirus, and production had to halt recently. The show only had one more episode to film (the finale), so it remains to be seen whether this episode will be just delayed, or integrated into the next season. 

How to watch Supergirl in the UK

As well as access to Sky One and 250 TV boxsets you'll be able to watch Sky Atlantic and Fox UK, which will offer access to hit programmes such as The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones when they next screen. An alternative is to watch Supergirl on YouTube, where single episodes cost £1.99 and you can get a full season from £20.99.

Season 4 dealt with an entire different beast - today's political climate. Villain Ben Lockwood challenged Kara to use other means than her superpowers to defeat another type of evil. Lex Luthor was the mastermind behind the main crisis of the season, pitting the aliens against the humans so he could achieve worldwide domination and erase all the Kryptonians in the galaxy. 

However, he met his demise at the hand of his daughter, Lena. Whilst this act doesn't quite turn her into a supervillain just yet, the revelation of Kara's secret from Lex may be enough to put her in a complicated state for the next season.

Can life get any more complicated for Supergirl in Season 3? Having found the lover she spent many episodes mourning and discovering not all of Krypton is gone after all, she discovers one has a new bride and the other links to a trio of world killers.

Elsewhere Kara is called in yet again to clear Lena's name, but recent events leave the pair's once strong friendship hanging by a thread. It's not the only friendship she should be doubting either, as the team rallies round to save newcomer Sam from Reign.

Supergirl teams up with her cousin, Superman, at the start of Season 2, but it's not long before the city is turning on its alien residents: first the superhero is targeted with kryptonite by Cadmus, led by Lena's mother, and later finds herself with a bounty placed on her head.

It's not all doom and gloom as Kara and Alex's father is rescued from Cadmus, though new boyfriend Mon-El isn't so sure everything is as it seems. Kara also finds an unexpected aid in The Guardian.

Sent to Earth to protect her baby cousin Superman, Kara Zor-El's pod was thrown off course. When she eventually arrived he had already grown up, so instead she settled into family life with the Danvers.

Under the guise of Kara Danvers and now as an adult, Supergirl begins to embrace her superpowers for good, making the decision to protect National City from all who would wrong its citizens. She's off to a rocky start, though, as her efforts to help do more harm than good.

Season one introduces key characters including her sister Alex and fellow DEO agent J'onn, colleagues Winn and Jimmy (James Olsen), and new boss Cat. Kara struggles to balance life as a superhero with her day job, especially when faced with her first real threat: Auntie Astra and her hubby Non.
