In the comics, Spider-Woman has been the alter-ego of many women within the universe, including Gwen Stacey, Mary Jane Watson and Jessica Drew. We don’t know yet whether Wilde will take inspiration from one of these characters or go in an entire new direction.

This film will be the latest to join the Sony-Marvel universe, which is currently made up of the Spider-Man films with Tom Holland (though they are still mixed in with Disney’s MCU), Tom Hardy’s Venom films and a brand new title, Morbius, with Jared Leto.

Deadline also reported that this new untitled film will join an upcoming Madame Webb movie directed by S.J. Clarkson, as well as films centered around Black Cat and Silver Sable.

The relationship between Disney’s Marvel and Sony is a complex one, but you can read more about it in our piece on why Spider-Man isn’t on Disney Plus, with links to where you can watch both Homecoming and Far From Home.

The majority of the other Marvel Disney films are available to stream on Disney Plus, which costs £5.99/US$6.99 per month or £59.99/$69.99 per year. You can sign up for an account over on the Disney+ website.
