Showrunner of The Boys, Eric Kripke, was also the creator of Supernatural, so has worked closely with Ackles in the past. On the appointment he stated, “As Soldier Boy, the very first superhero, he’ll bring so much humour, pathos, and danger to the role. I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of ‘Supernatural’ to ‘The Boys.’”
The Boys was renewed for season 3 earlier this year and will air its second season in September. The show is based on the bestselling comic series, originally created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. It’s a darker take on the superhero genre, showing that the image portrayed to the public of heroes is often skewed far from the truth.
Ackles is currently filming for the last two episodes of season 15 of Supernatural, the final season of the show, which had been put on hold due to the pandemic interrupting the production process. The series will resume on The CW on 8 October with seven episodes left to go.
His fellow co-star, Jared Padalecki, is already signed up to play the lead role in a reboot of Walker, Texas Ranger. Misha Collins has yet to announce his plans after Supernatural. You can still watch the rest of season 15 of the show in the UK by using a VPN to stream the episodes on The CW website.
