Amazon was recently rumoured to be working on its own EchoPods, and now it would appear that Microsoft is also planning its own pair of wireless earbuds with the upcoming Surface Buds.

Codenamed 'Morrison', likely after US rock star Jim Morrison, the Surface Buds are an in-ear solution that follows Microsoft's Surface Headphones over-ear cans as the company steps once again into the personal audio market.

Little is known about the upcoming Surface Buds, but we can guess that they will integrate the Cortana voice assistant and noise cancellation, potentially also touch controls.

According to Brad Sams writing for, Surface Buds will also improve interactions between the phone and earbuds to make reading content easier on the phone.

The image at the top of this article was created for Sams by Phone Designer, and is merely a concept of how Surface Buds might look. The grey colour scheme has been seen before on Surface Headphones, though the Windows logo is new.

When are the Surface Buds coming out?

A release date for Surface Buds is not confirmed, but is likely to fall within 2019.

How much will Surface Buds cost?

Microsoft will likely price its wireless buds in line with the competition, and below its £329.99 Surface Headphones. We don't expect Surface Buds to cost any more than £200, but likely closer to £150.
