Also found were references to ‘FaceDetect’ and ‘BioCapture’, heavily hinting that Apple is building macOS Big Sur with the ability to support Mac hardware with Face ID built in.
At the moment, Apple has used Face ID in three generations of iPhone and two generations of iPad Pro. The latest MacBook Air and Pro models use Touch ID built into the power button, and no Mac has had Face ID yet.
It makes sense that Apple would bring its clever biometric tech to the Mac, particularly given new Macs are coming with Apple’s own silicon chips powering them – much like the iPhone and iPad.
Apple has confirmed that it plans to ship the first of these new Macs before the end of the year, though it’s not certain that this is the machine the Big Sur code is referring to.
