Following on from Fitbit’s first tracker aimed at kids, the Ace, comes the Ace 2. But where the Ace was based on the Alta with some features removed, the Ace 2 is based on the new Inspire band so has a completely new look.

It’s designed for kids age six and older, and is available with styles that will appeal to both younger and older children.

How much does the Ace 2 cost?

It’s cheaper than the Ace, but it’s still near the top end of what you might expect to pay for a kids’ fitness band at £69.99 / $69.99. Garmin’s Vivofit Jr 2 is a little more expensive at £79.99.

It comes in watermelon & teal or night sky & neon yellow, but you can buy separate silicone bands in other colours for £19.99 / $24.95, and ‘fun printed bands’ for £24.99 / $29.99.

It’s also compatible with Inspire HR bands, which means you can buy those as your child grows up and wants something a bit more stylish.

When is the Ace 2 release date?

Fitbit hasn’t announced specific dates yet, but says it will go on sale in summer 2019.

What features does the Ace 2 have?

Well, for one thing it’s swimproof so that’s an upgrade over the ‘splash-proof’ Ace. It means swimming can count towards a child's daily activity.

The Ace 2 tracks activity throughout the day and monitors sleep at night, and kids can see their progress on the monochrome screen by choosing between a rocket taking off or a flower or monster growing larger. These graphics are shown on the display along with step count and the time.

There are clock faces designed to be more easily readable by kids, and the strap design includes a bumper around the screen to prevent accidental damage.

As with the original Ace, the Ace 2 has parental controls for better privacy, and you can add your child to the Fitbit app and review their activity and sleep habits.

The look and feel of the interface can be changed to mirror a more adult device as your child grows up, in theory making it better value as it could suit them for several years.
