Sony A330 dSLR camera thumbnail view Sony has launched a digital SLR (single reflex lens) camera that it describes as "light, simple and the perfect introduction to the world of digital photography".

The A330 is a 10.2Mp dSLR camera with a 23.6x15.8mm BIONZ image sensor and the ability to shoot 2.7 frames per second at full resolution.

The £549 camera can shoot an unlimited number of Jpeg images when in continuous shooting mode (limited by the capacity of the Memory Stick storage card) and up to six RAW image files. The camera can also shoot RAW + photos.

The Sony A330 offers autofocus and automatic white balance adjustment as well as full manual controls and supports ISO settings from 100 up to 3,200. Six preset scene modes are included and there's an onscreen menu that provides context-dependent advice on shot composition and settings.

A Quick AF LiveView feature mode helps users quickly compose images on the 2.7in LCD monitor and displays photos and video already taken.

The 490g camera has a tripod thread for taking rock-steady shots as well as a SteadyShot feature that reduces camera shake. The A330 can capture high-definition video and photos with a total pixel count of 3,872x2,592. An HDMI output means HD video can be played directly from the camera on an HD TV screen.

A dust-reduction feature helps ensure artefacts aren't introduced when switching lenses.

A USB 2.0 connection is also built in to the camera's body so footage can be downloaded to a Windows XP, Windows 7 or Vista PC or to a Mac OS X machine.

The Sony A330 is available to preorder now from Jessops' website. Jessops is the exclusive UK distributor of the camera.
