LaCie has repeated its collaboration with Porsche to create a USB 3.0 hard drive that packs in either 1TB or 2TB of storage. The solid aluminium hard drive chassis is a chunky 120x190x38mm and weighs a full kilo. Compatible with current versions of Windows and Mac, it offers USB3 transfer speeds of up to 5Gb per second, while USB2 connections max out at 480Mbps. In order to take advantage of the significantly faster USB3 speeds, the host device as well as the USB hard drive must support the protocol.
The Windows and Mac-compatble LaCie Porsche 9'230 hard drive costs £89.90 for the 1TB model.
LaCie also announced a Porsche Design Mobile Hard Drive with similar styling. This model will be sold through retail channels and by LaCie in 500GB and 1TB versions. In addition, LaCie will offer a 750GB version of the Porsche Design Mobile Hard Drive exclusively through its online store.
