Eye-Fi Pro X2 wireless media card Eye-Fi has launched a new version of its wireless Secure Digital card allowing faster over-the-air photo transfers.

The Eye-Fi Pro X2 card supports the latest 802.11n wireless networking standard and is capable of uploading photos stored on a digital camera or camcorder to a website for secure storage.

Three versions of the Eye-Fi X2 card will be offered. The lowest-capacity Connect X2 card offers 4GB of storage and costs £49.99. It can send shots direct to a preconfigured online photo gallery or archive such as Flickr or Picasa as well as being used for instant sharing on social networks such as Facebook. Video footage, meanwhile, might instead be directed to a user's YouTube account.

Eye-Fi also plans to offer an 8GB Explore X2 card costing £99.99 while the nominally unlimited Eye-Fi Pro X2 storage card will retail for £199. In fact, it clears and compresses card memory to fit on more than it would otherwise. All three cards are set to go onsale in the UK in the next few weeks via high street and online retailers such as Amazon, Jessops and Currys.
