Wuhan, China, the university at which Xiaomi boss Lei Jun obtained his computer science degree, is the venue for tomorrow's launch of the Xiaomi Mi 6X.
Later to be introduced as the Android One-powered Mi A2, the new Mi 6X will likely cost 1,799 Yuan and feature a 5.99in 18:9 display and 20Mp dual-camera. You'll be able to buy it in the UK, US and elsewhere through Chinese importers such as GearBest.
When is the Xiaomi Mi 6X release date?
The Mi 6X will launch tomorrow, 25 April 2018. We're not expecting to see a live stream, so refresh this page for full details following the announcement.
This is three months earlier than anticipated, given the 25 July 2017 launch for the Mi 5X.
If it follows the same pattern, the Mi A1 that was announced on 5 September could see a 5 June launch for its successor, the Mi A2.
How much will the Xiaomi Mi 6X cost?
It's rumoured that the Xiaomi Mi 6X will be available in two versions costing 1,799 Yuan (£204/US$285) and 1,999 Yuan (£227/$316) with 32- or 64GB storage and 4GB RAM respectively. There will also be a 128GB storage version.
You will need to factor in import duty (20 percent) if you plan to ship one of these devices from the likes of GearBest.
Xiaomi Mi 6X specifications
It may not be launching until tomorrow, but the Mi 6X is already listed in the device catalogue at Android.com. As well as providing an image of the yet-to-be-announced Xiaomi phone, the listing confirms a 6in screen, 4GB of RAM, 32- and 64GB storage capacities, Android 8.1.0 (with MIUI 9) and a fingerprint scanner, though notes there is no NFC.
We've also seen some leaked retail packaging, which additionally confirms a vertically-aligned 20Mp Picture Perfect dual-camera at the rear, 20Mp selfie camera, USB-C support, a 2,910mAh battery and the Snapdragon 660 processor.
Xiaomi is not exactly being secretive about the new phone, of course. We already know it will arrive in five colours: Cherry Pink, Flame Red, Sand Gold, Glacier Blue, and Black.
Xiaomi has even offered some example shots taken using the Mi 6X's selfie camera:
That 6in screen will actually more than certainly be a 5.99in model, with a full-HD+ resolution of 2160x1080 pixels and an 18:9 aspect ratio. No notch is expected.
A TENAA listing also gives away its 158.88x75.54x7.3mm chassis, which isn't that much larger than the 5.5in-screen, 155.4x75.8x7.3mm Mi 5X.
