Mac developer equinux has announced a new free iPhone app called Live TV, which is designed for users to watch live TV on their Apple iPhone.

Live TV shows the current TV channels that The Tube provides in the same WLAN in an optimized resolution for your iPhone, via Placeshift. As soon as a user's iPhone is registered with The Tube, they'll be able to watch all available channels on their iPhone with a simple click, according to equinox.

"With 'Live TV' we're opening up an entirely new media experience on iPhone", said equinux CEO Till Schadde.

Live TV on Apple iPhone

Live TV will soon be free to download from the iTunes App Store. It requires TV software The Tube 2.9.2. The Tube is delivered with the TubeStick, the TV receiver from equinux that currently supports more than 20 different TV receivers including those from Hauppauge.

With The Tube users can watch live television, pause running shows (timeshift), go through the TV listings in the electronic programme guide (EPG) and schedule recordings. With Placeshift, you can stream live TV to friends via iChat and enjoy Live TV on your iPhone, says equinox.

With the web service, TubeToGo, users can watch and program recordings via the internet on their iPhone or iPod touch online. The Tube is localized in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

The company's TV Movie iPhone app shows the next six days' worth of German TV programmes and arranges them according to show time.

Equinux is focused on business and consumer applications designed for the Mac market. Its UK distributor is Computers Unlimited.
