You may or may not be aware of Huawei's presence in the smartphone market in the UK. The Chinese firm has launch devices including the Huawei Ascend P6 and more recently, the Ascend P7 which is its successor. See also: Honor 6 hands-on review.
However, Honor is a new entity which is independent from Huawei but has the firms backing as partnership in terms of production.
"In contrast to smartphone brands that put their devices on a pedestal and sell in a brick and mortar store, actively lecture leading fans to follow, Honor will change the landscape and breaks the norm of a one way relationship between brand and follower," said Honor.
The firm added that it is swapping flashy TV ads flagship stores to provide customers with value. The Honor brand itself has been designed for a "digital native generation", according to the firm.
Honor 6: Release date and price
As we mentioned already, there will be no physical shops for the Honor range and as such the Honor 6 will be sold online only in Europe via Amazon. The smartphone is available to pre-order at a price of £249 and a release date of 10 November.
It might sound like another uninteresting mid-range handset but check out what specs and feature you get for your money below.
Honor 6: Specs and features
Although the Honor 6 is new to Europe, the smartphone actually launched elsewhere earlier in the year and there are others in the range too including the Honor C3 and Honor Holly. For now, it's just the Honor 6 which is making its way to Europe.
The Honor 6 features a 5in Full HD screen, octa-core processor, Cat 6 4G LTE and excellent battery life. The firm touts a battery life of 2.7 days from the 3100mAh battery.
On the design side the device is 7.5 mm and 130 g. Honor says "The dazzling 3D diamond-style texture back cover is inspired by nature. A 6-layer high-complex surface treatment is made with special composite materials."
For photographers there is a 13 Mp rear camera which uses a fourth-generation Sony sensor and has a dual-LED flash. At the front is a 5 Mp camera with a wide-angle lens and 1.4um pixel size. Honor touts the camera as the fastest possible snapshot around at 0.6 seconds.
You can take photos without needing to switch the screen on by double tapping the volume down button and there's a focus mode which allows you to take a photo then select the area of focus afterwards.
That octa-core chip is a Kirin920 which uses four 1.7 GHz A15 cores and four 1.3 GHz A7 processors for a combination of power and efficiency. It also has a Mali-T628 GPU and 3 GB of RAM.
The Honor 6 comes with Android 4.4 KitKat and Huawei's Emotion UI 2.3. The firm has promised periodical software upgrades as based on consumer feedback via its website or social media channels. We assume it will get Android 5.0 Lollipop.
