Huawei’s sub-brand Honor releases many phones in many regions every year and we see most of them hit UK shores. From £99 up to around £580 its handsets cover a range of needs and budgets. We rate them as some of the best cheap and mid-range phones on the market. It’s unfortunate that, as part of North America’s ban on Huawei devices, US customers are missing out on Honor phones.

Previously we thought the company’s next major launch would be called the Honor 11, the successor to the Honor 10. However, the current rumours and leaks suggest that it will be the Honor 20. And like its predecessor did with the Huawei P20, it will probably undercut the not-yet-released Huawei P30.

Don’t confuse the Honor 20 with the Honor View 20, which was launched globally in January 2019 and is a higher-end phone that starts at £499.

When is the Honor 20 coming out?

Honor has a habit of announcing phones in China a month or so before a European launch. The Honor 10 was unveiled in China in April 2018 with the UK launch happening in May.

So, you can expect the same to happen this year with a China launch of the Honor 20 around April and a UK announcement mid-May.

How much will the Honor 20 cost?

Honor might stick to its pricing structure and sell the Honor 20 in the UK for £399. This is the price of the Honor 10.

A specs leak from Slashleaks shows there could be three models of the Honor 20:

  • 6GB + 128GB – 2999 Yuan – approx. £329
  • 8GB + 128GB – 3399 Yuan – approx. £379
  • 8GB + 256GB – 3799 Yuan – approx. £429

The most likely scenario is that only one of these will be sold in the UK, and that’s probably the 6GB + 128GB version, and as we said, it could cost £399 including VAT. These are the leaked specs:

Honor 20 release date, price & specs rumours

The render you see above from Slashleaks shows the rear of the rumoured phone.

Pair this up with the leaked specifications and you’ve got 48Mp, 20Mp and 8Mp sensors and a 3x optical zoom lens. This could well be the same setup you’ll find on the Huawei P30 (the P30 Pro has four cameras including a rumoured 10x lossless zoom). Honor introduced its AI camera tech with the Honor 10 and it improved images in some scenarios even if it over saturated images in others. Hopefully the 20 will improve things in this regard.

The P30 is said to have a 6.1in OLED screen, and so does the Honor 20 according to the leaked specs. Similarly, both will be powered by the Kirin 980 processor, first seen in the Huawei Mate 20.

We can also see from the specs that the battery is 3650mAh and fast charging will be 22.5W, which is also rumoured for the Huawei P30.

The Honor View 20 had one of the first hole-punch cameras in the top left corner of the display rather than a central notch. The Honor 20 won't have one of these, as the leaked specs claim it will instead opt for the more popular dewdrop notch. They also say it will feature an in-screen fingerprint sensor.

The Honor 20 will almost certainly be a top-spec phone that costs a lot less than its Huawei counterpart. This is always the case, but the Honor phones do look different, often with more curves in the body and no doubt a vibrant royal blue colour option. Again, the specs tell us there will be an 'Aurora gradient' option,

When we have more information on it we’ll let you know.
