Sony has unveiled the Vaio Z range of ultra-portable laptops powered by Intel's Core i7 processor.

Available with either the Core i7-620M 2.66GHz or Core i7-520M 2.4GHz chip, the Vaio Z range features a 13.1in HD 1920x1080 backlit LCD display and an integrated nVidia GeForce GT330M graphics processor.

Users can choose between dual or quad 64GB solid state drives (128GB or 256GB capacities in total) that will write in parallel on the 1.45kg laptop, that measures 210x33x314mm.

A built-in ambient light sensor detects surrounding light levels, automatically switching on keyboard backlighting for accurate typing while dimming screen illumination to save power as necessary.

The laptop runs Microsoft's latest OS Windows 7 Professional and also benefits from Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and a Motion Eye webcam. A fingerprint reader is also available as an optional extra.

The Sony Vaio Z series will be available in early 2010.
