Sony VAIO C Series Adding to the 16in-screen 3D laptop, known as the Sony VAIO F Series, announced last month are new 14in consumer and 13in business notebooks from Sony.

The 14in Sony VAIO C Series aims to make a bold lifestyle statment in its unmistakeable bright colour finish. As well as gloss black, white or pink finish options, two of the range take what Sony calls ‘light emitting’ translucent colours – green or orange.

These are designed to scatter light along their edges, in a bid to render them with a dramatic glow effect.

Inside they will be fitted with new Intel Core i5-2410M processors, complemented with 4GB of RAM and a 320GB hard disk.

If bought online direct from Sony, there will also be an option for switchable graphics, either built-in Intel or AMD Radeon 6470M. Other features include one USB 3.0 port, HDMI output and an HD webcam.

The Sony VAIO S Series is a 13.3in laptop aimed at business users, with the highlight on stamina and performance.

It sports an internal non-removable lithium-polymer battery, said to be good for seven hours of life with the notebook in low-power mode, which can be augmented with a strap-on battery pack to double this run time.

Like the nVidia Optimus system, it promsises an auto-switching technology that can move between integrated Intel and discrete AMD HD 6470M graphics card, depending on load. The main processor is an Intel Core i5-2410M clocked at 2.2GHz.

To combat annoying screen reflections, the S Series’ 1366x768 LCD panel includes a low-reflection coating, while a backlit keyboard adjusts brightness according to ambient conditions. Some models are also fitted with 3G modems.

These new laptops are scheduled to become available in late March 2011, with the VAIO C Series initially exclusive to Sony Centres and John Lewis.

Sony also announced a revision to its VAIO L Series all-in-one desktop PCs. This 24in-touchscreen PC gains a new interface possibility from its screen bezel. It’s now possible with Edge Access to activate key Windows commands such as browser back/forward, virtual keyboard and app-switching using finger touch on the gloss black bezel.

This multimedia PC is scheduled to be launched in early May 2011.
