Lenovo Thinkpad X201 laptop Lenovo has updated its ThinkPad business laptop range with four new models including an ultraslim model and a tablet version it describes as a "smart tablet for business users".

The ultraportable ThinkPad X201 Windows 7 laptop runs on a 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and weighs in at 1.4kg. Lenovo says its benchmark tests show it is 25 percent faster than other ultraportable laptops in its class. The X201 runs a standard Intel Core processor, rather than a low-power consumption version.

The ThinkPad X201s, meanwhile, is a multitouch model with a 12.1in screen and weighd around 1.6kg. Both stylus and finger input will be supported on the convertible tablet.

"We're continuing to push the envelope on innovation to give our mobile customers faster, more powerful and smarter ThinkPad laptops," said Dhilip Bhatia, Lenovo's vice president of ThinkPad product marketing. "These PCs incorporate the latest computing technologies and extra Lenovo features to make the PC experience more simple and productive."

Lenovo is seeking to distinguish its business-grade tablet from models aimed at consumers in several ways. It runs the Business Edition of Windows 7, has a biometric fingerprint reader, a self-encrypting hard drive and an ExpressCard slot should the owner prefer to use a smartcard reader. Advanced networking and connectivity options are also supported, including gigabit Ethernet, wireless LAN, WiMax and 3G.

Although the ThinkPad X201 doesn't have a built-in DVD writer, the tablet can be used with one via an ultrabase docking station.

Both the tablet and ultraportable laptop X201 models support multitouch navigation and can be used in a wide range of operating conditions including direct sunlight.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X201 goes onsale in the UK this month for an RRP of £849 while the X201s will cost around £1099.
