Asus U Series ultraportable thumbnail view Asus has launched a new range of superslim laptops designed to appeal to those with an eye on style as well as portability. The U Series models come in a range of screen sizes from 12.1in to 15.6in.

Some models in the Asus U Series are powered by Intel's CULV (consumer ultra-low voltage) processors and should see batteries lasting up to 12 hours between charges. The U50 and the UX50 will have nVidia GeForce G105M graphics and support full HD 1080p video playback.

Equipped with 4GB of RAM and up to 500GB of hard disk space, the Windows Vista Home Premium Asus U Series models have built-in gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 2.1 and wireless 802.11 a, b, g and n connectivity.

Ambient light sensors automatically adjust the brightness of the screen and, in common with other recent laptops launched by the 10-year-old company, sport illuminated MosaicGlow 'chiclet' keyboards. HDMI output, Altec Lansing speakers and surround sound audio are also provided.

The Asus U Series laptops will cost between £799 and £999 are available immediately.
