Saitek has launched a £59 gaming keyboard known as the Cyborg.
The Saitek Cyborg differs from standard keyboards in that it can be converted from a normal to a gaming keyboard at the touch of a button.
In gaming mode the W, A, S and D keys, the cursor keys and the numberpad keys are illuminated with red, amber and green backlights. The Windows keys, which would otherwise quit games if accidentally pressed, are disabled in gaming mode. Users are able to customise which keys are lit by which colours and the settings will be saved and applied even if the system is rebooted.
Integrated software governs keyboard settings and complicated in-game commands and can be used to save game-specific profiles so the user does not have to re-program the keyboard each time a new game is loaded. In normal mode the keyboard functions like any other.
The Saitek keyboard has an adjustable rake angle at the front and back to prevent strain injuries from intense keyboard use while the W,A,S and cursor keys are metal plated. Saitek claims this prevents wear from prolonged gaming. The keyboard also features includes pass-through USB, audio and microphone sockets.
The Cyborg Keyboard is priced at £59.99 from Amazon.
