Sony's PlayStation Classic is official, and looks to follow in the footsteps of Nintendo with the release of the SNES Classic and NES Classic. The market for retro consoles has proved to be incredibly popular in recent years, and while Sony's PS Now service offers the ability to play a range of PS2 and PS3 games, the PlayStation Classic is the only way to play PlayStation One games.

The PlayStation classic looks like the original but about 45% smaller, and come with 20 pre-loaded games for all your nostalgic playing pleasure.

Here's all you need to know about Sony's PlayStation Classic, from pricing and deals to details on game availability and what you'll get in the box.

When was the PlayStation Classic released?

The PlayStation Classic was released on 3 December 2018, though we expect the console to be in high demand and it's likely that it'll sell out fairly quickly.

How much does the PlayStation Classic cost, and where can I buy it?

The PlayStation classic retails at £89.99 (€99.00 / $99.00) assuming you're able to get your hands on one. These retro consoles have a reputation for selling out extremely quickly and we’re not sure what the supply situation is like, so make sure you get yours as soon as possible.

The PlayStation Classic is still available to buy on Amazon at the time of writing, along with GAME in the UK. Argos isn't currently offering delivery of the console, but it is still available in some stores

What games are available on the PlayStation Classic?

The 20 pre-loaded games that come with the console is going to be a huge factor in whether you decide to purchase one or not.

Here's a complete list of games available on the PlayStation Classic:

  • Battle Arena Toshinden
  • Cool Boarders 2
  • Destruction Derby

It's worth noting that this is the list for UK and US fans, as much like Nintendo's retro consoles, game availability for the PlayStation Classic is region-specific.

In response to questions posted by IGN, Sony confirmed that "The 20 titles launching with the PlayStation Classic were selected due to their popularity amongst original PlayStation fans. However it is important to note that the title list is tailored to each region,

The company has also confirmed that there won't be any games added to the retro console post-launch, and that there is no online functionality or the ability to connect to PSN accounts or services.

What accessories come with the PlayStation Classic?

PlayStation Classic Hardware

The PlayStation Classic comes with two original wired PlayStation controllers, so they don't include the Dualshock analogue sticks. The console is also powered by a USB port at the back, and if you want an AC Adaptor, you’re going to have to buy one of those separately.
