Here’s everything we know so far about Ghosts of Tsushima, including release date rumours, platforms, gameplay and the reveal trailer which can be seen above. If you're interested in other highly-anticipated games, take a look at our roundup of the best new games

When will Ghosts of Tshushima be released?

So, when is the incredibly exciting Ghosts of Tsushima being released?

Sadly, there was no release date given during the game’s PGW 2017 reveal. In fact, there wasn’t even a broad release window of 2018 provided, although a CES 2018 trailer may provide the answers we're looking for.

At CES 2018, Sony showcased a trailer of upcoming games, movies and hardware that the company is planning to release in 2018. One of the games featured? You guessed it, Ghosts of Tsushima.

Game Director Nate Fox claiming that the team has been working on the game “for the last few years” so a 2018 release date isn't too unreasonable. But while many assumed it would be announced during Sony's E3 2018 presentation, it wasn't the case. There is a new trailer to enjoy though, which can be seen below.

Ghosts of Tsushima: Platforms

While platform support was initially unconfirmed for Ghosts of Tsushima, the Sony E3 2018 presentation put rumours to rest: like other solid single-player games including God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn, the upcoming title is a PS4 exclusive with no word on it coming to other platforms in the future. Sorry Xbox One and PC fans!

Ghosts of Tsushima: Story and gameplay

While little is known about what you’ll be doing in Ghosts of Tsushima, the reveal trailer and accompanying blog post did provide us with a bit of information about the setting of the game.

Set in Tsushima, Japan in 1274, you take on the role of a legendary Samurai warrior defending the island against the fearsome Mongol Empire. The Empire is wreaking havoc and terrorising the local population, and as one of the last surviving Samurai warriors, you fight back and build the legend of the Ghost of Tsushima using old samurai traditions and unconventional skills.

It’ll be set in an interactive open world according to Sucker Punch Productions, allowing you to explore the war-torn island of Tsushima however you want. You’ll have access not only to the legendary Katana sword favoured by the Samurai, but also a six-foot-tall longbow and other stealthy weapons to help you take down enemies in your path.

We got a more in-depth look at the satisfying blend between hardcore combat and stealth during Sony's E3 2018 presentation - in fact, we got a whole eight minutes of gameplay, showing off the stunning scenery and ultra-gory combat.

The trailer, set in a Mongol invasion, see's the main protagonist mount a horse and charge down a stunningly beautiful hillside into a forest where he encounters a variety of sword-wielding enemies. As a Samurai, the combat is based on well-timed counters and vicious attacks that lovers of gore are sure to appreciate.

The trailer also showcases you and a companion sneaking into a temple and using stealth to get the drop on the enemies. You can enjoy it in full below:
