With the runaway success of other mobile shooters like Fortnite and PUBG Mobile, it was only a matter of time before Activision threw its hat into the ring with a free-to-play shooter. That comes in the form of Call of Duty: Mobile, a multiplayer first-person shooter set to come to iOS and Android devices later this year. The game is said to boast a range of maps, game modes, weapons and characters from across the Call of Duty franchise, with more details to be announced in the coming months.
Here’s everything there is to know about Call of Duty: Mobile right now, including release date and pre-release beta details, platform availability and gameplay news.
When will Call of Duty: Mobile be released?
The biggest question of all is “when will it be released?” and while we don’t have a solid release date just yet, Activision has confirmed that the Call of Duty Mobile will launch in open beta form “in select regions” this summer before being made available in Europe, North America, South America and more at release.
How can I join the pre-release beta?
Activision will release more information about availability in the coming months, but ahead of general release, a lucky few gamers will be able to take part in pre-launch betas. According to the Call of Duty: Mobile FAQ, there will be multiple betas taking place over the coming months.
Those interested in getting access to the pre-release beta (along with game update news) should head to the Call of Duty: Mobile website and pre-register now. Android fans can also pre-register for early access directly via the Call of Duty: Mobile Google Play listing.
We’ll be sure to update this section as soon as information becomes available, so check back frequently for the latest Call of Duty: Mobile release date news.
Call of Duty: Mobile platform availability
As confirmed by Activision, Call of Duty: Mobile will be free to download exclusively on iOS and Android devices. There’s no word yet on whether either platform will have a period of exclusivity (like when Fortnite came to iOS first), but hopes are that it’ll be available for keen iOS and Android gamers at the same time.

Call of Duty: Mobile gameplay - what’s it like?
Like the Call of Duty titles on consoles, Call of Duty: Mobile is a first-person shooter experience with a range of popular modes, maps, weapons and characters from across the franchise, including Black Ops and Modern Warfare. You’ll be able to customise your character, weapons, scorestreaks and other gear to enhance the shooter experience. We imagine there will be some kind of Battle Pass too, but Activision is staying tight-lipped about that for now.
“We are delivering the definitive, first-person action experience in a new mobile title with incredible graphics and visceral Call of Duty gameplay,” said Chris Plummer, VP, Mobile at Activision. “Together with the amazing team at Tencent, we’re bringing together a collection of the most beloved maps, competitive modes, familiar characters and signature weapons from across this storied franchise into one epic experience for the first time on mobile.”
Activision has already confirmed various popular multiplayer modes including Team Deathmatch, Search and Destroy and Free-For-All and fan-favourite maps including Nuketown, Crash and Hijacked while teasing that more modes and environments will be announced in future. We get a glimpse of these modes at the end of the announcement trailer, seen above. While we can’t be sure, it looks like Zombies will also be available in Call of Duty: Mobile.
More importantly, does the clip of helicopters and a VTOL flying over an open battlefield remind anyone else of an incredibly popular battle royale game mode called Blackout? We’re quietly confident that it’ll make an appearance in Call of Duty Mobile, but we’ll report back when we have more details about the available game modes.
