Satnav manufacturer TomTom has joined forces with Nike to create a GPS running watch. The Nike+ SportWatch works in conjunction with the Nike+ shoe sensor, which comes bundled with the device, to show runners their time, distance, pace and calories burned during their run on its screen.

Users can also tap the screen to set laps or activate the backlight during their run. Once training is complete, the watch can simply be plugged into a USB port on a PC, and the data uploaded and stored in the user's own personal Nike+ account, access via the Nike+ website. The data will be automatically applied to any Nike+ Challenges, Nike+ Goals, and Nike+ Coach programs the users is participating in.

The  GPS SportWatch watch will store the data from past runs and allow users to import data from their Nike+ account. Furthermore, users will be able to access a catalogue of run routes logged by Nike and published by other runners on streets and trails around the world. Each run will be displayed on a map and is accompanied by route notes, elevation and length. These routes can be searched by location, length, difficulty, and even landmarks.

The Nike+ SportWatch will be available in the UK from April 1. No pricing details have been released.
