Archos Smartwatch

Archos has confirmed it will launch smartwatches and connected home gadgets at CES 2014. (Follow CES 2014 live, and get the latest CES news here.)

The biggest technology show of the year is poised to kick-off next week in Las Vegas and Archos has given a peek at what it will be serving up. On the menu will be smartwatches (plural) and multiple gadgets for the home.

The French tablet and smartphone maker will be broadening its horizons this year with devices including a weather station, home camera, activity tracker and a blood pressure monitor. It said its 'selection' of smartwatches will start at less than £50. It will take on the Sony SmartWatch 2Samsung Galaxy Gear and Pebble.

"Archos smart watches embrace simplicity and function, feature a pebble-like design and will be compatible with both iOS and Android devices." said the firm.

Archos said the 'connected objects' will be compatible with iOS and Android via a proprietary app to provide real time information monitoring using Bluetooth Low Energy. The firm will also offer a dedicated 7in Smart Home Tablet.

The activity tracker will go up against FitBit, JawBone and Nike providing users with daily footsteps, calories burned and automatically displays time when synchronised with a smartphone.  Archos said the battery will last for a week.
