Plextor has launched a 750GB multimedia backup drive. The Plextor PX-MPE750U media storage drive is intended to hold music, movies and TV downloaded from the web and is primed with a number of ports so it can be hooked up to a home entertainment system.
Plextor reasons that, when it come to music and TV downloaded from the web, most of us rely on our PC to store and play back the files. If we want to be able to enjoy them on a consumer device such as a TV we tend to go through the hassle of burning a DVD or CD in order to do so. Its media storage drive is intended to obviate this step.
Cleverer than the average external hard disk drive, the PX-MPE750U is a drag-and-drop affair that hooks up directly to a TV or hi-fi as well as a PC. Audio, video and photos can be played directly from the Plextor drive. Ports on the drive include USB, Scart and composite video.
The PX-MPE750U will upscale video to 720p so it’s capable for use with high-definition (HDTVs) and comes bundled with a remote control and cables for video, AV and USB connections.
Available now, the PX-MPE750U is priced at €225 (£150). Full details can be found at www.plextor.be.
