Just like your home, your PC needs a good spring clean every once in a while. And that means removing old software you don't need any more.

Whether it's a web browser you stopped using, or software relating to a digital camera or smartphone that's long gone, we can guarantee there's unwanted programs taking up space on your hard drive, As well as taking up valuable space on your machine, they'll also slow your PC down. However, it's very simple to remove them. We show you how.

Step one
Head to the Start menu and select Control Panel then select Uninstall a program.

Step two
A list of software installed on the machine will appear. Simply click on the program you want to remove and select Uninstall from the option at the top of the window. You'll be asked to confirm you want to remove the program.

Step three
Click yes and then wait while the software is removed from your PC. However, it's worth noting that the Windows uninstaller doesn't always completely remove all traces of a program. So if you're concerned, you need Revo Uninstaller. Once you've downloaded the app, which can be found in PC Advisor's downloads section, go to the Start Menu and select Revo from the program list.

Step four
In Revo's interface, double-click a program's icon to remove it. You can then scan for and remove leftover files or Registry entries.
