There have been a number of bugs on Windows 10 in recent months, making for a frustrating user experience at times. 

The latest of these causes Windows Defender, Microsoft's own antivirus software, to stop working properly. It is no longer perform a quick or full scan of the computer for potential threats. This can leave your computer vulnerable to security attacks.

Windows Defender comes pre-installed on most versions of Windows 10, making it many users' go-to software for protection from virus. 

Fortunately, Microsoft has released an update to patch the error. Here's how to install it. 

How to fix the Windows 10 antivirus bug

  1. Click on the Start Menu and type 'Windows Security'
  2. Open the app and click 'Virus and security protection'
  3. Check for updates and install the latest version
  4. Restart Windows Defender and it should be working properly again
