Send out Christmas cards with the personal touch your family and friends will love. We demonstrate how to personalise a greetings card.

It’s that time of year when you realise it’s too late to put off the Christmas cards any longer. If you don’t send them out now, you might as well not bother. But it’s not just the hassle and cost of buying the cards and writing festive greetings to your nearest and dearest that bothers us; it’s that they always lack the personal touch we want to portray.

The obvious alternative is to make your own cards, but this can take up a lot of your time and they rarely look as good as you hoped. There’s always a stray blob of glue or a slightly wonky embellishment. It can be a fairly expensive option too.

However, a number of photo-printing websites, including Photobox, Snapfish and Kodak, now let you create and personalise your own greetings cards at a reasonable cost. You can add a personal message and use your own photo on the front. It’s a great way to ensure distant relatives don’t feel like they’re missing out on seeing little Johnny growing up.

Keep an eye out for special offers, as these sites regularly sell two packs of cards for the price of one and similar deals. Usually delivered within three days, you won’t need to design and order your cards weeks in advance.

We'll take you through the design process using Photobox.

Create personalised greetings cards

Step 1. Head to Photobox and select the Cards option, followed by Christmas. Photobox offers more than 200 Christmas card templates. Narrow down the selection by searching for different sizes or specifying the number of pictures that can be added to the design.

Step 3. Drag-and-drop the images on to the design. Using the tools at the top, rotate the photos, reposition them or zoom in or out. To add text, click on a text box and enter a message. Adjust the font and colour, then press ‘Insert text’. Use the links at the side and bottom to access the inside and back of the card.

Step 4. Click Order. Once you’ve double-checked your design – including your spelling – confirm that you’re happy. Your card will be added to your shopping basket. Check the quantity is correct and select ‘Proceed to checkout’. Enter your personal and payment details to submit your order.
